Wolvercote Win U13 Hundred Finals Day
Wolvercote set records to become the first side to win the U13 Hundred competition twice in the same season.
The first semi-final of the day saw Langford beat Cumnor by 2 runs. Batting first, Langford fell to 23-3 before France’s 25 and Harris’ 21 saw them recover to 82-5 from their 100 balls. The pick of the Cumnor bowlers was Tappin who returned figures of 2-14 from his 20 balls. In reply, Cumnor started strongly with openers Spicer and Healy scoring 27 and 22 respectively. However, a collapse that saw them lose 6 wickets for just 20 runs left them 2 runs short of their total, seeing Langford into the final. Langford did well to restrict their opponents, with Harris being the pick of the bowlers, finishing with 3-18 from his 20 balls.
Semi-final 2 was between Peppard and Wolvercote, with the former batting first. Losing early wickets, Peppard slipped to 13-3 before strong performances from A Kind (48) and Baker (41) saw them recover to a defendable 134-7 from their 100 balls. Wolvercote shared around the wickets, with Rowan-Hull, Bratby and H Bewes taking 2 apiece. Needing 135 to progress to the final, Wolvercote got their chase underway well, with Du Plessis striking 53 from just 41 balls – joined by Lovell’s 30 which put their team in good stead to progress. However, both fell and Peppard looked to be back in the game, with the two in-form batters out and the hundredth ball rapidly approaching. Captain Bratby’s innings of 14 from 8 was just about enough to see his side over the line and progress to the final. Plaudits must go to Sedgwick whose valiant effort to give his side a chance to win the trophy finished with figures of 2-16 from his 20 balls, including 13 dots.
After a short break, the final got underway, with Wolvercote batting first. A first-wicket stand of 59 gave the holders a rocketing start, with Du Plessis continuing his fine form from the previous game. This time Bratby joined in the runs with his 46 from 27 balls seeing his side to 137-6 from their 100 balls, leaving Langford 138 to win the trophy. Passey stood out from the Langford attack, returning figures of 3-24 from his 20 balls. Needing a good start, Langford had anything but, losing captain France for 0 and putting Wolvercote firmly in charge. However, Hewlett (27) and Greenslade (33) piled on the runs, giving their side a fighting chance to get to their total. H Bewes had other ideas, though, and after removing both in a devastating spell of 2-9 from 20 balls all but sealed the game for Wolvercote. Langford fell 32 runs short of their target, meaning Wolvercote collected the trophy for the second time this season.
The presentation of the trophy and medals was conducted by Joe Clapton (Finals Day Manager for the day) who thanked Charlbury for hosting, the umpires, coaches, scorers and all the teams for a great day of cricket. Thank you to all clubs who competed in this year’s Competition, and we look forward to seeing more great cricket over the summer.
Congratulations again to Wolvercote for winning the competition twice this season.
Oxford Win U11 Hundred Finals Day
Oxford saw off stiff competition from finals day finalists Witney Mills, Banbury and Cumnor to lift the U11 Hundred trophy on Sunday.
The first semi final saw Cumnor beat Witney Mills by 6 wickets to book their place in the final. Mills struggled for runs throughout their innings, managing just 72 from their 100 balls with some restrictive bowling from Cumnor keeping the score low. The pick of the Cumnor bowlers was Wood who took 2-10 from his allocated 20 balls. In response openers Amy and Harper ticked off the lions share of the runs before both being run out, leaving Gardner-Morrsion to finish the job and give his side the chance to lift the trophy in the final.
Semi final 2 was between Oxford and Banbury, with Banbury batting first in a low scoring affair – reaching just 82 from their 100 balls. The Oxford bowlers did well to restrict the scoring, with Seekings and Pillai returning figures of 1-10 off 15 balls and 0-7 off 15 balls respectively. In reply, Oxford knocked off the runs with balls and wickets to spare, with Shah scoring 25 and Smith striking 31 to see their side into the final.
In the third place playoff, Banbury batted first and runs from Acton, Brock and some huge sixes from Cronin helped them post 111. In reply, Green counter-attacked, with Chandrawale playing the anchor role, before a volley of boundaries from Lewis put Witney Mills in command.
In the final, Healey and Amy got Cumnor off to a flying start, only for some excellent death bowling to restrict the Bears to 93. Dawnay and Shah then put Oxford in pole position to complete their run chase with time to spare, before captain Smith and Nirmal finished the job to secure their team the trophy.
The presentation of the trophy and medals was conducted by Neil Pickup (Finals Day Manager for the day) who thanked Didcot for hosting, the umpires, coaches, scorers and all the teams for a great day of cricket.
Congratulations again to Oxford for winning this competition. We look forward to next season to see who will lift the trophy in 2024.

Horspath Win U19 Finals Day
Horspath saw off competition from Cropredy and Banbury to win the Honey B Trophy on their home ground in a fantastic display of club cricket last Sunday.
The first semi-final saw Horspath beat Cropredy by 7 wickets to secure their spot in the final. Batting first, Cropredy got off to a slow start and fell to 32-2. Helpful runs from Lynch (32) and Dunlop (22) got their side to 101-6 from their 20 overs. Gibbs was the standout of the Horspath bowlers, returning figures of 2-15 from his allocated 4 overs. Horspath got their response under way quickly with both openers – C Turner with 23 off 13 balls and Hofen 34 off 24. Despite both losing their wickets the middle order chased down the remainder of the target, getting over the line in just 12.1 overs.
Semi-final 2 was between Cumnor and Banbury, with the former batting first. Losing early wickets, Cumnor re-built with W Laird (36), A Laird (21) and R Nicholson (20) helping their side to a defendable total of 138-7 from their 20 overs. Banbury did well to restrict Cumnor’s score, with Miller the pick of the bowlers with 3-14 from 4 overs. In response, Banbury were led by their captain, Short, who hit a match-winning 89 from just 52 balls – including 9 fours and 6 sixes. His side were victorious by 7 wickets and booked their place in the final to face off with Horspath for the trophy.
After a short break, the final got underway, with Banbury batting first. Short fell first ball of the innings, but his teammates did well to recover, with Scott (27) and Finlay (62) putting on 105 before the next wicket fell. From there Horspath’s Richardson took 4-28, limiting Banbury to 147-8 from their 20 overs – meaning Horspath needed 148 to win. C Turner got his side off to the best possible start, scoring 68 from 27 balls, and earning himself the Man of the Match trophy in the process. From there R Dogaar (20), Richardson (25) and S Dogaar (20) saw their side over the line and secured the Honey B Trophy.
The presentation of the trophy and medals was conducted by Joe Clapton (Finals Day Manager for the day) who thanked Horspath for hosting, the umpires, coaches, scorers and all the teams for a great day of cricket. Horspath’s captain Alfie Turner received the trophy with the presentations made by Morris Honey’s daughter, Claire.
Thank you to all clubs who competed in this year’s Competition, and we look forward to seeing more great cricket over the summer.
Congratulations again to Horspath who will hold the trophy until next year’s competition where no doubt other clubs will be vying to get their hands on the coveted prize.

Moreton Reach National Final
Following their regional final win over Winsley CC in early July, it quickly became apparent that Sunday 6th August would be a pivotal day in the Maverick’s calendar. With a key Home Counties League match already scheduled that afternoon, they now had to try and squeeze in a national plate T20 semi final as well, whilst also losing several of younger players to a conflicting county GU15 fixture ! The cricket gods kindly assigned them Basingstoke, as their venue for the cup match with Hampstead; not perhaps everyone’s first choice destination, but in this instance, with less than an hours travel time to Moreton, it gave everyone a fighting chance of getting back to Moreton in time to play Binfield. An 11am start was fine, until heavy rain the day before hinted at a delayed start at Basingstoke & North Hants CC. Fortunately the ground staff there did a terrific job to ensure a prompt start; Moreton players, Aimee Diab in particular, did the rest, to ensure both victory & a timely departure. Aimee’s 94* from 49 balls was a sublime innings, of the highest calibre; her near 200 strike rate meant a more “leisurely” drive back to North Moreton, with no driving licences put at risk.
In a contrasting game, Binfield were then defeated on a tricky batting track with 8 overs to spare & The Mavericks capped an amazing day, by jumping to the top of Home Counties Prem for the first time.

Lion-Cachet Makes History as Oxfordshire Beat Devon
Oxfordshire beat Devon on Tuesday in Exeter to go top of the NCCA Western Conference Division One.
Having won the toss and elected to bat first on day one, Oxfordshire posted a total of 291 in their first innings with Zach Lion-Cachet top scoring with 100. In response, the hosts were bowled out for 166 with Max Mannering staring with the ball as he took 5-58 to give Oxon a lead of 125 runs going into the second innings. Lion-Cachet continued where he left off in the first innings as he top scored again with 105 to help guide Oxon to 261-8 before declaring to set the hosts 387 runs to win the match.
In response the hosts got off to a positive start before the off-spin duo of George Tait (4-58) and Max Mannering (3-54) took crucial wickets to help guide Oxon to 198 runs win to take them top of the division and set up what is set to be a thrilling final group match against Cheshire starting on the 20th of August at Banbury CC.
It is thought that Lion-Cachet becomes the first player to score a hundred for Oxfordshire in all three formats (three-day championship, one-day and t20) having achieved this all this season. It marks a good run of form for Lion-Cachet who has played for Sussex CCC 2nds and Preston Nomads in Sussex this season having come through the Oxfordshire pathway, and been on the Sussex CCC Academy.
After the match, Lion-Cachet was presented with his county cap by captain Olly Clarke who he has played with since the age of around eleven years old having come through the Oxfordshire pathway together.
