Oxfordshire Cricket is looking for a Performance Nutritionist to work within our Boys Emerging Players Programme (Boys EPP). This is a unique opportunity to educate and instill crucial nutritional foundations in high-potential athletes aged between thirteen and eighteen, help to accelerate their path toward First Class County academies and professional cricket, primarily through a formal partnership with Sussex County Cricket Club (Sussex CCC)
Role Purpose
The Boys EPP is a crucial talent development programme, providing specialist coaching, conditioning, physiotherapy, and educational workshops to accelerate the progression of high-potential players aged 13-18 and a clear pathway into First Class County academies and professional cricket. As our Performance Nutritionist, you’ll be instrumental in unlocking each player’s potential by focusing on the three key areas:
- Physical Performance and Recovery
- Healthy Growth and Physical Development
- Optimal Cricket Performance and Wellbeing
You will work directly with a high-calibre cohort of young athletes, coaching staff, and parents to develop and implement evidence-based, developmentally appropriate nutrition strategies.
Your Impact
This role is centered on delivering both impactful group education and individualised support.
- Educational Delivery: Design and lead a minimum of two in-person workshops, covering essential topics like healthy eating during growth, hydration strategies, recovery nutrition, meal planning for busy schedules, and supplement/anti-doping awareness. You will also create simple and practical resources to reinforce key messages.
- Individualised Support: Conduct a minimum of two one-on-one review meetings with each player to tailor nutrition strategies to their personal performance goals and development needs.
- Multi-Disciplinary Collaboration: Work closely with Cricket and S&C coaches, along with other support staff to ensure nutrition plans seamlessly align with training demands and physical development.
- Professional Standards: Maintain the highest standards of safeguarding, player welfare, and pastoral care, working within professional guidelines (e.g., SENr Code of Conduct).
Essential Requirements
We are looking for an exceptional candidate with the following:
- Qualifications: A Degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, or Sport and Exercise Nutrition, plus a Higher Degree (e.g., IOC Diploma or PG Cert/Dip/Masters in Sports Nutrition or a related subject).
- Accreditation: SENr registration or equivalent accreditation (or actively working toward it).
- Experience: Proven experience working effectively with adolescents in sport or development environments, coupled with a strong understanding of growth and maturation and its implications for youth athlete nutrition.
- Clearance: Enhanced ECB Disclosure and Barring Service clearance (or to obtain before commencement).
- Knowledge and Skills: Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills for engaging with adolescents athletes, parents/guardians/carers, and coaches. Knowledge of cricket is a desirable, but not essential, bonus.
Practical Details and How to Apply
- Engagement Period: November through August, aligning with the needs of the Boys EPP delivery cycle.
- Hours: In-person work assignments will be primarily on weekday evenings (Tuesday and/or Thursday between 18:30–20:30) and two full-day Training Camps (a Friday in February and a Friday in April).
- Additional Opportunities: There may be scope for further work assignments delivering educational workshops across our wider talent development system
- Commitment: The ability to travel independently within the county border is essential.
