Match Reports – Oxon GU15
Wiltshire Girls Under-15s 117 (28.3 ovs; Elise Haines 41, Ellie Simpson 3-17, Zara Wyatt 3-32)
Oxfordshire Girls Under-15s 118-8 (28.2 ovs; Lucy Johnson 31, Martha Honeybone 3-31)
Oxfordshire won by 2 wickets
Oxfordshire Girls Under-15s completed their 40-over campaign on Monday with a nail biting win over Wiltshire at Moreton Cricket Club.
Invited to bat first, Wiltshire were soon in deep trouble as Ellie Simpson (3-17) and Zara Wyatt (3-32) knocked over the top three inside five overs. Elise Haines (41) and Anna-Mae Shearn (23) added 44 for the fourth wicket, but Simpson was not to be denied as she bagged her third wicket during her opening six-over spell. Sana Kassey (2-17) ensured that there was no respite for the Wiltshire batsmen once Simpson and Wyatt were rested. Haines’ resistance was finally ended by the returning Wyatt, and Zoe Soonawalla and Honor Murray picked up a wicket each as the visitors were bowled out for 117 inside 29 overs.
In reply, Oxfordshire found the going tough against the pace of Anna-Mae Shearn, allied with the nagging accuracy of Martha Honeybone (3 for 31). A quick-fire 18 from Aimee Diab pushed the home side to the brink of 50 runs in just 8 overs; but wickets fell at regular intervals, and Oxfordshire were five down with 50 runs still required. However, opener Lucy Johnson (31) held firm, and now found a willing partner in Philippa Dellar (18). In contrasting styles, the pair negated the threat of spin-duo Emily Smith (2-14) and Ellie Rumble (1-20), before both departed with the finishing line in sight. A slight wobble followed, before Zoe Soonawalla edged Lottie Carr to the fine third-man boundary to complete the victory by two wickets with the best part of 12 overs remaining.
Oxfordshire finished the season a creditable 3rd in Group 8 of the ECB Girls Under-15 One-Day Competition.
Oxfordshire Girls Under-15s 115-4 (20 ovs; Emma Sherwood 53*)
Buckinghamshire Girls Under-15s 109-2 (20 ovs; Amelia Jones 35, Molly Carter 30*)
Oxfordshire won by 6 runs
Oxfordshire Girls Under-15s 94-9 (20 ovs; Lucy Burnham 3-10)
Buckinghamshire Girls Under-15s 95-2 (14.3 ovs; Tegan Stockdale 33*, Kitty Spurgeon 2-16)
Buckinghamshire won by 8 wickets
The Under-15 Girls’ season concluded with two T20s against Buckinghamshire at Middleton Cheney on Tuesday. In game one, Oxfordshire battled the cold, damp conditions to post a respectable total of 115 for four from their 20 overs. The hosts were heavily indebted to Emma Sherwood’s maiden 50 for the County, scored from 53 balls received. The Buckinghamshire response began brightly, as they reached 19 for no wicket from two overs; but exceptionally tight bowling through the next 14 overs restricted the visitors to just 45 further runs – despite no wickets being lost. This left Buckinghamshire with too much to do from the final four overs, and they fell six runs short.
Oxfordshire came a distant second in game two, as three wickets for leg-spinner Lucy Barnham – coupled with five run-outs – left the home-side with a below-par total of 94 for nine. Kitty Spurgeon picked up two early wickets, but strong hitting from Tegan Stockdale and Pip Lloyd-Williams saw Buckinghamshire home with more than six overs to spare.
James Coles Named in England U19 Squad
Oxfordshire’s James Coles has been named in England’s U19 squad to play the West Indies.
The series will be the first time the England U19 team has played since the 2020 ICC U19 Cricket World Cup, and the squad, selected by the Young Lions selectors, will be led for the first time by ECB Elite Pathway Coach, Richard Dawson.
Dawson said: “I’m excited to see the group in action and to see how they fare against their international peers. It’s a big opportunity for the players, and it’s their first step on the international pathway.
“It’s testament to the quality of our young players that we may lose a few during the series, should they be called into their county’s first-team squad. We’ll be communicating and collaborating with the counties throughout and we’ve selected a group to cover that eventuality, and we’re looking forward to getting going.”

Youth Competitions Roundup 27th August
Banbury CC U13 Gauntlet Goblet Champions
Horspath CC victorious in the delayed 2020 U19 Semi-Final
Horspath won the toss and elected to bat. Both openers, Alfie Turner 60 off 38 balls and Tejas Anand 44 off 31 balls set the tone for the innings which finished on 171 for 5 off a reduced 16 overs given the shortened August daylight hours. The pick of Hook Norton’s bowlers was Fraser Lovat with 2 for 21.
In reply, Hook Norton lost wickets at regular intervals with Max Harris top scoring with 29 and the innings falling 42 short of their target at 129 all out in the final over. Two wickets apiece for Josh Cummings, Josh Richardson, Joe Gibbs and Chris Batten.
Thank you to the umpires, John Finch and Ian Royle and the scorers, Catherine Turner and Mark Ingham.
Congratulations to Horspath CC who now host Aston Rowant CC in the delayed 2020 U19 Final for the HoneyBee Trophy on Sunday 5th September 1.30pm at Horspath CC.
Good luck to both teams!
Oxfordshire Win NCCA Championship Western Division
Oxfordshire are NCCA Championship Western Division One Winners!
Oxfordshire secured a seven-wicket over Dorset today to secure them NCCA Championship Western Division One. They will now go on to play a four-day final match against Suffolk who is the winner of the Eastern Division at Tring from the 5th-8th of September.
On day 1 Dorset’s captain, Luke Webb won the toss elected to bat first. Harry Fisher (50) made the biggest contribution for the hosts. Jacob Gordon (18) and Webb (16) also contributed but Dorset was bowled out for 129, Gareth Andrew taking 4-29 from 20 overs.
Oxfordshire secured a 116-lead as Marcus Campopiano (90) plus 65 from Callum Russell and 41 from Harrison Smith gave the hosts a deficit.
Alex Eckland (87), Webb (45) and Simon Woodruff (35) contributed for Dorset but Max Mannering (5-58) impressed with the ball as Oxon restricted Dorset to a 113-run lead, having been dismissed for 219.
Oxfordshire threatened to make light work of the target, racing to 48-0. Gordon (2-22) then dismissed Smith (31) and Campopiano (18), while Josh Digby (1-47) removed Tom Haynes (0) to leave the visitors on 55-3. George Tait’s 44 from 45 balls secured the win for Oxfordshire.
Match Report – Tiddington GU15 v Moreton GU15 (Monday 16th August)
Moreton Girls Under-15s 109-3 (18 ovs; Lucy Johnson 50*)
Tiddington Girls Under-15s 68-3 (18 ovs; Zoe Soonawalla 22)
Moreton won by 41 runs
The Oxfordshire Cricket Girls Under-15s Hardball Competition concluded with a winner-takes-all clash on a gloriously sunny evening at Tiddington Cricket Club last Monday.
Put into bat by their hosts, Moreton began cautiously against accurate seam bowling from Megan Park (1-13), Emma Park (1-3), and Zoe Soonawalla (1-11); and after 10 overs, the Tiddington attack had limited Moreton to just 38 runs for the loss of Bethan Lewis (12) and Emma Sherwood (0). However, the break for drinks prompted a change in approach from the Moreton batters; and with Lucy Johnson (50*) and Alex Knight (18) adding 69 for the 3rd wicket, Moreton inflated their total to a imposing 109 for 3 from their allotted 18 overs.
In reply, Tiddington suffered an early setback when Alice Stapley was snaffled by Emma Sherwood at extra-cover in Alex Knight’s second over. Zoe Soonawalla (22) and Martha Stapley (17) added 53 hard-fought runs for the second wicket in 14 overs, before the former was stranded short of her crease by Lucy Johnson’s bullet-like throw from 30 yards. Martha Stapley followed in the next over, bowled by the persevering Bethan Lewis (1-7), and the young Tiddington side finished their innings with a creditable 68 runs for the loss of three wickets.
Many thanks to Cally Evans and Owen Lewis for umpiring, and to Robert Johnson for both scoring and running the scorebox on the evening.
