Match Report – Oxon GU18 v Dorset GU18 (Wednesday 21st July)
Oxfordshire Girls Under-18s 196-8 (40 ovs; Lottie Oxton 70*, Isobel Kirby 32, Leah Cutler 3-19)
Dorset Girls Under-18s 85 (31.1 ovs; Isabelle Riley 3-25)
Oxfordshire won by 111 runs
Oxfordshire Girls Under-18s recorded a 111-run win over their Dorset counterparts at a sun-soaked Charlbury Cricket Club on Wednesday afternoon. Batting first, Oxfordshire looked to be in some trouble at 44 for 3 when Abigale Norgrove (28) was caught at square-leg in the 9th over. A 50-run partnership between Isobel Kirby (32) and Isabelle Riley (15) steadied the ship, before both departed in successive overs. This brought Lottie Oxton to the crease, and she immediately took full toll of a wilting attack, first adding 74 runs for the 6th wicket in partnership with Victoria Harris (21), before blasting her way past her own half-century from just 34 balls faced, and finishing undefeated on 70 from 56 deliveries.
Chasing 197 for victory, Dorset lost Freya Cutler to Kirby in the first over. Mollie Joyce and Leah Cutler set about rebuilding the innings, before lavish swing bowling from Riley accounted for Joyce in the 11th over, and Leah Cutler was run out by excellent work from Harris at mid-wicket in the next. The Dorset middle-order found runs hard to come by, as Riley (3-25), Chloe Westbury (2-8) and Oxton (2-10) picked up wickets at regular intervals. The visitors’ innings was brought to a premature end when Emma Trowbridge, on debut, span her first delivery past the bat of Ceri Harris, as Oxfordshire ran out winners by 111 runs.
After three matches, Oxfordshire now head Group 7 of the ECB Girls Under-18 One-Day Competition, two points clear of Berkshire who have a game in hand.

Moreton GU15 v Warborough BU13 Report
Steventon Girls Under-15s 49 (14.4 ovs; Alex Knight 3-4, Tegan Allum 3-6)
Moreton Girls Under-15s 127-2 (18 ovs; Bethan Lewis 25*, Lucy Johnson 20*)
Moreton won by 6 wickets (with 8.5 overs remaining)
Warborough & Shillingford Boys Under-13s 63-9 (100 balls; Fabian McElwaine-Johnn 11, Phoebe Oldfield 2-2)
Moreton Girls Under-15s 66-7 (74 balls; Conor Rogan 16*, Niamh Rogan 15, Louis Bolton 3-5)
Moreton won by 3 wickets (with 26 balls remaining)
Moreton opened their annual Cricket & Beer Festival on Thursday evening with an inaugural Hundred match between Moreton Girls Under-15s and Warborough & Shillingford Boys Under-13s.
Once the finer points of the law-changes had been explained to the two sides, and with scoreboard tweaked and software updated to support the Hundred format, Moreton took to the field and stepped into the unknown. The home side got off to the best possible start when excellent work by Phoebe Oldfield at square-leg resulted in Logan Rainbow being run out at the non-striker’s end from the very first ball of the match. The Warborough innings struggled to ignite as Moreton continued to bowl and field with energy and enthusiasm. Oldfield maintained her fantastic start to the evening by delivering Moreton’s first wicket-maiden in this format, on her way to returning figures of 2 for 2 from 15 balls; and six other bowlers chipped in with a wicket a piece as the visitors stumbled to 63 for 9 from their 100 allotted balls.
Moreton also lost a wicket to the first ball of their innings, as Lucy Johnson was adjudged leg-before wicket to Louis Bolton (3 for 5). Bethan Lewis produced a couple of lusty blows, before she was left short of her crease by Wilf Quinn’s direct hit with one stump to aim at; and, when Quinn followed up this feat three balls later by catching Oldfield off the bowling of Aiden Eltham, Moreton had lost half their side and were still 36 runs short of victory. Batting with immense maturity and much courage, Niamh Rogan – by far the youngest member of the Moreton Girls squad – first absorbed the pressure of the batting collapse, before then unfurling a range of classical drives and clips to rest back the initiative and leave Moreton on the brink of victory. It was left to older brother Conor (answering a last-minute call to arms) to see Moreton over the line with 26 balls remaining.

Hook Norton U19s Win Thriller
Hook Norton win thriller in last over
An exciting game on a gloriously sunny evening went down to the final over. Shipton batted first and got off to a flying start with Abi Norgrove and Ben Gibbons putting on 61 for the first wicket. After Gibbons was bowled by Joe Coggins, Dee Jarvis came in and continued the scoring pace until the second wicket fell for 97 in the 14th over. The scoring pace dropped as wickets continued to fall, with Shipton finishing on 133-6 (Ben Gibbons top scored with 40). Hook Norton’s reply got off to a difficult start, stumbling to 24-3 in the 4th over, but steady batting kept them in the hunt with a recovery until the fifth wicket fell at 62. Hook Norton were keeping up with the required run rate, but the wickets kept falling and with the score at 94-8 after 14 overs Shipton were looking favourites. A ninth wicket partnership of 36 between Will Hutchinson and Joe Coggins was ended by a run out with the score at 130 in the 19th over. Last Hook Norton batter Pickle Harris came out and blocked the last three balls of the over, leaving Hutchinson on strike at the start of the final over, and off the first ball he managed to strike the four required to win the game for Hook Norton. Man of the match was Will Hutchinson with bowling figures of 4-0-22-2 and 25 not out with the bat.

County Men v Sussex Roundup and Highlights
Tom Haines’ century set up a 62-run victory for Sussex Sharks in their National County Friendly against Oxfordshire at The 1st Central County Ground. The match which was due to be played in Oxfordshire, was played at Hove due to COVID-19. It is the first match against a first class county for Oxfordshire as part of the NCCA showcase fixtures.
Captaining a young Sussex side, Haines made 105 from 122 balls as Sussex posted 285 for 9 in their 50 overs after winning the toss. After the loss of openers Tom Clark and Harrison Ward cheaply, Haines added 115 for the third wicket with Australian international Travis Head, who made a run-a-ball 55.
Jofra Archer, continuing to build fitness as he returns from elbow surgery earlier in the summer, chipped in with 15 from 11 balls, while Ollie Carter (22 from 15 balls) and Ali Orr (30 from 18 balls) also played cameos.
Off-spinner Max Mannering was the pick of the Oxfordshire bowlers, picking up the wickets of Clark and Archer during ten overs that cost just 29 runs.
Archer bowled six lively overs with the new ball and forced Oxfordshire opener Tom Cosford to retire hurt in the seventh over after hitting him on the helmet twice.
Henry Crocombe took the first wicket with the score on 38, before Harry Smith and Tom Condon added 47.
Smith had made 42 from 67 balls when he was bowled by 17-year-old James Coles, who signed his professional with Sussex earlier in the year after coming through the Oxfordshire pathway, and Oxfordshire and Sussex Cricket Academy.
That left Oxon 85 for 2 and requiring 200 from just over 25 overs. The scoreboard pressure soon told and Head capitalised picking up three quick wickets with his off-spin on his way to figures of 3 for 23 from six overs.
With the required run-rate surging, the game was all but gone, but a belligerent 93 from 81 balls from Henry Rossouw lifted Oxfordshire to a respectable total.
Rossouw added exactly 100 for the sixth wicket with George Tait, who made 25 before becoming Coles’ second victim in the 45th over.
Joe Sarro returned to pick up two late wickets, including Rossouw, as Oxfordshire finished on 223 for 8.
