Horspath crowned Oxfordshire champions in Village Cup
Brilliant centuries from Viv Narayan and Tom Nichols allied to a devastating spell of bowling by Asad Rafiq saw Horspath crowned Oxfordshire area champions in the Voneus Village Cup for the fourth time in five years with a 228-run romp against Aston Rowant at the Recreation Ground.
Narayan smashed 137 from 89 balls and Nichols hammered 109 off 98 deliveries to take Horspath to a massive 312-5 off 40 overs after they elected to bat in the regional final, before Asad ripped through the visitors’ batting to return stunning figures of 6-21.
It was a ruthless fourth-round display from the hosts, who were winning the area crown for a third successive year and the eighth time in total.
Now Horspath go into the last 32 of the national rounds with the next step on the road to Lord’s a home tie against Gloucestershire champions Painswick, who edged past Marshfield by 13 runs, on Sunday, June 22.
Nichols and fellow opener Tyron Eyles (19) got Horspath off to a swift start in front of a 200-plus crowd. They put on 48 inside eight overs before Eyles got an inside edge to Lewis North and wicket-keeper Jamie Revill took the catch at the second attempt.
But then Narayan joined Nichols and the pair proceeded to plunder boundaries in a thrilling second-wicket stand of 231.
Narayan, who struck five sixes, was the first to reach 100 when he whipped a four – one of his 16 boundaries – through mid-wicket.
Nichols followed him to three figures two overs later with a neat cut down to third man for a single.
Their partnership was finally broken when Nichols, who hit eight fours and fives sixes, was bowled by Jacob Eaton to leave Horspath 269-2.
Narayan followed 11 runs later when he lofted a drive off Eaton, who emerged from the run spree with creditable figures of 4-59, to North at long off.
Stephen Green chipped in with a breezy 18 to take Horspath past 300 as the hosts posted what is believed to be their highest score in the competition.
Asad then took centre stage with his pace blowing away Rowant’s top order as the visitors crashed to 25-4. He completed his five-wicket haul when Liam Hester edged into George Crawford’s gloves, and made it six of the best with Ben Knowler also caught behind before the end of his eight-over spell.
There was no way back for Rowant and, with Liam Turnbull taking 2-7, they were shot out off 22.5 overs.

Oxfordshire Cricket is pleased to announce the 12-player squad selected to face Cornwall in the Vitality Women’s T20 Blast Division 2 South fixtures on Sunday, 15th June 2025 at Thame Town Cricket Club.
Chloe Westbury is unavailable due to injury, while Aimee Diab is set to make her first appearance of the season. Captain Emilia Bartram returns to lead the side after missing the last two rounds of the T20 County Cup Knockout Competition due to international commitments with Italy.
The squad heads into Sunday’s matches with confidence and momentum, following a strong showing in the recent County Cup. Oxfordshire can take great pride in their performances and will look to build on that success against Cornwall.

Team News – Oxfordshire Men v Buckinghamshire 15th of June 2025
Oxfordshire Cricket has named a 12-man squad for their third-round National Counties Cricket Association (NCCA) T20 fixture, taking place on Sunday, 15th June 2025, at Didcot Cricket Club, who will be hosting the Men’s 1st XI for the very first time.
The squad features five changes from the side that battled to a hard-earned victory in the second game against Wales NC, securing a 1–1 set of results in their previous outing. With qualification for the Super 12s stage still within reach, Oxfordshire will be aiming to maintain their momentum on home soil.
Among the new faces are Oxford Brookes University students Ayush Patel and Amogh Karpe, who have earned their first senior call-up. Also returning to the squad is Tahmid Ahmed, who made an impressive debut in the Showcase match against Surrey CCC, claiming 3 for 11. Gaarjuran Gangabalan is included in the senior squad for the first time, rewarded for his strong early-season form and standout performances with the Under-18s in 2024. He replaces Ollie Armstrong, offering valuable depth to the batting line-up. Prav Chahal is also recalled and is set to make his first appearance of the season, with Tom Davis unavailable for selection. Oxfordshire will be without Archie Lenham and Dan Ibrahim, who are committed to Sussex CCC Second Eleven Championship duties starting on Monday. In addition, White Ball captain Harrison Ward remains with Sussex CCC for the Vitality T20 Blast campaign, meaning George Tait will continue to lead the side in his absence.
Oxfordshire will be looking to put in a strong performance at home as they continue their push for a place in the next phase of the competition.

Oxfordshire Cricket are delighted to invite candidates to apply for the role of Women and Girls Officer.
We are looking for an ambitious, inclusive, and proactive individual who can work collaboratively with our team and key stakeholders to lead Oxfordshire Cricket into the next phase of our Women and Girls strategy.
Our aim in Oxfordshire is to significantly grow the women’s and girls’ game, making it more prominent and visible across the county. While the baseline numbers are already strong, there is still so much potential to unlock. To achieve this, we are looking to appoint an individual who can drive growth in this area and ensure that as many bats and balls as possible get into the hands of women and girls.
As a Women and Girls Officer, you will be responsible for delivering cricket programmes in line with the Women and Girls Strategy to girls across primary and secondary schools. Your work will focus on linking these girls to local clubs and community settings as well as to our pathway programme, supporting the growth of the women’s and girls’, and driving participation through various cricket initiatives. You will also work within Talent Pathways to deliver quality coaching sessions within our pathway programme as well as assisting with the recruitment and retention of players across our pathway programme and supplementary programmes for state educated players.

Team News – Oxfordshire Men v Wales NC 8th of June 2025
Oxfordshire Cricket has named the 12-man squad for their second-round fixture in the National Counties Cricket Association (NCCA) T20 competition, set for this Sunday, 8th June 2025, against Wales National County. After a hard-fought opener that ended with honours even against Berkshire, Oxfordshire are eyeing a strong performance as they look to gain ground in the competitive NCCA T20 Group 3. Four changes have been made to the squad as they aim to build momentum in their push for progression to the Super 12s stage.
Freddie Smith returns to the top of the order in place of Harrison Ward who continues his campaign with Sussex CCC in the Vitality T20 Blast. In Ward’s absence, George Tait will once again lead the side as he did in the recent showcase fixture against Surrey CCC. Brothers Hayden and Tristan Rossouw are both available again and recalled, replacing Henry Rogers (Sussex CCC) and Arjun Ramkumar. Ramkumar is unavailable due to University commitments. International representation also impacts the squad this week, with Zach Lion-Cachet with the Netherlands for the ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 series in Scotland. His place is filled by Sussex CCC batting all-rounder Danial Ibrahim, who featured in Oxfordshire’s T20 side last season and is set for his first appearance of 2025.
Oxfordshire will be aiming for strong performances on Sunday as they continue their NCCA T20 campaign.
