Dragon School Win U12 Cup at Wormsley
On Tuesday 28th of June, Oxfordshire Cricket in partnership with the Oxfordshire Schools Cricket Association welcomed Magdalen College School and The Dragon to the magnificent Wormsley Estate for the U12 Bunbury Cup Final.
After winning the toss and electing to bat, Dragon got off to a slow start which left them at 35-3. A superb 54 off 46 balls by Will Baker, and an unbeaten quick 25 off 13 balls by Ed Turner helped guide Dragon to 162-7 off their twenty-five overs.
In response, a steady 38 off 54 by Raffy Gibbons and 24 off 36 by Nico Hartley kept Magdalen in the chase. However, some tight overs in the middle of the innings by Ollie Evans and Cosmo Rowan-Hull led to a flurry of wickets, with Evans taking 3-14 and Rowan-Hull taking 2-19 to help secure a 27-run win for Dragon.
Dragon will now go on to represent Oxfordshire in 2023 in the regional rounds of the National England Schools Cricket Association (ESCA) cup.
Support Oxfordshire Cricket Deliver Cricket in State Schools
Oxfordshire Cricket has a proven track record of growth across a wide range of programmes. In 2021 we delivered cricket to 8171 children in primary schools in Oxfordshire. We would like to embrace the opportunity of providing more cricket within state schools, widen our talent pool and level-up opportunities. At this point in time, we do not have any funding for secondary school activities or programmes for the next academic year. The ECB and Chance to Shine do not fund mixed secondary school delivery. Our ambition is to raise enough funding that will enable us to deliver a secondary school programme in every school in Oxfordshire.
We would also like to make opportunities such as playing some of the school’s finals days at places such as the wonderful Wormsley estate which hosted this year’s finals in partnership with the Oxfordshire Schools Cricket Association a sustainable annual event. Warriner School Win U13 Cup at Wormsley
On Tuesday 28th of June, Oxfordshire Cricket in partnership with the Oxfordshire Schools Cricket Association (OSCA) welcomed Burford School and The Warriner School to the magnificent Wormsley Estate for the U13 OSCA Cup Final. The event took place at the magnificent Wormsley Estate as part of Oxfordshire Cricket’s strategy to widen access to cricket.
After winning the toss and electing to field, Warriner got off to a good start with the ball with Shiva Senthilkumar taking 2-7 off his four overs. Will Rorich then took 3-8 to leave Burford 33-6, before Rufus Jones hit a steady 16 off 40 balls to help guide Burford to 66-8 off their 20 overs.
In response, Warriner last an early wicket with Freddie Webb bowling Rorich. Ben Miller then hit an unbeaten 36 off 26 balls to help guide Warriner to a 9 wicket win.
The presentation ceremony was then conducted by the Oxfordshire High Sheriff, Mark Beard who presented both teams with their medals, and the Shield to Warriner School. Peter Tubb was then presented with a lifetime achievement award by the High Sheriff for his years of voluntary service and dedication to managing and organising the Oxfordshire Schools Cricket Association.

Peter Tubb Presented with Lifetime Achievement Award
Each year The Grassroots Cricket Awards rewards and recognises the outstanding work carried out by volunteers. On Tuesday 28th of June, the first award for the 2022 Grassroot awards was presented at the magnificent Wormsley Estate at the U12 and U13 schools finals day in partnership with the Oxfordshire Schools Cricket Associaton.
Peter Tubb has been the main man behind the Oxfordshire Schools Cricket Association (OSCA) for over 35 years. He has done this in a voluntary capacity.
The role has seen him organise countless fixtures through the leagues and cups for schools across the county. This has with no doubt enabled individuals (probably in their thousands) to take part in school cricket.
On behalf of Oxfordshire Cricket, all the schools, and with no doubt the countless amount of players who have taken part in fixtures over the years, we would like to thank him for his years of dedication, time and effort to schools cricket in Oxfordshire.
Peter was presented with his lifetime achievement award by the Oxfordshire High Sheriff, Mark Beard after the U13 Schools Cup Final at Wormsley, where he received a standing ovation from players, parents, officials and supporters.
