Oxfordshire Youth Hundred Competitions

Thank you to all the clubs who have entered the inaugural Hundred Youth Competitions to be played alongside ECB’s The Hundred during August.

Pools and fixtures have now been distributed to all participating clubs across U11, U13 & U15s, with a total of 50 teams competing.

We have Finals Days provisionally booked for the Pool Winners in the U11 Competition at Cropredy CC on Sunday 4 September, and the U15 Competition at Didcot CC on Sunday 21 August.

Good luck to all clubs and thank you for your support in trialling the competition at this time of the season where both ground and player availability may prove a challenge.

The ECB Foundation I Coach is a blend of e-learning and face-to-face modules led by ECB Coach Developers will explore what coaching looks like, the impact you can have as an ECB Foundation I Coach, the skills you can help players to develop and how you can learn from your experiences. By committing yourself to this programme and becoming a qualified coach you will become an important part of the ECB’s coaching family that works together to help players improve, have fun, be safe and learn at every stage of their development.

Core Coach Course

The ECB Core Coach programme is an entry level qualification for coaching cricket in England and Wales alongside ECB Foundation I Coach. The programme is a blend of e-learning and face-to-face modules led by ECB Coach Developers will explore the player-centred planning process, player development, the skills you can help players to develop and how you can learn from your experiences. By committing yourself to this programme and becoming a qualified coach you will become an important part of the ECB’s coaching family that works together to help players improve, have fun, be safe and learn at every stage of their development.

This programme has been designed to give learners the knowledge, skills and confidence to lead player-centred coaching sessions.

An ECB Core Coach will be qualified to lead coaching sessions independently and without supervision.

Tiddington CC narrowly lose out to Hampstead CC in the National Vitality U13 Club T20

Following their success at the U13 Ron Maudsley Final Day on Sunday 3 July; Tiddington CC represented the County and faced Hampstead CC at the weekend in the Vitality U13 Club T20 Second Round.

Tiddington won the toss and elected to field.

Hampstead scored 115 for 8 off their 20 overs with Dia Nair 27no; Subhan Malik 26 and George Barnett 24. Sam Edwards took 2-16 and Harry Johnston 2-10 for Tiddington.

In reply, Tiddington fell slightly short at 97 for 7 off their 20 overs with Kit Kingsbury 21; Jago Sidgwick 19 and Zach Stanfield 18no. Winnie Jewell the pick of bowlers for Hampstead taking 2-15.

Hampstead CC won by 18 runs.

Good luck to Hampstead CC in the Regional Semi-Final against Harold Wood CC.

U13 Gauntlet Goblet Reaches Semi-Finals Stage

Thank you to all clubs who have competed in this season’s Gauntlet Goblet Cup; there have been many matches played across 4 Pools demonstrating superb skills, a desire to play the game and matches played in great spirit.

Congratulations to Eynsham CC, Oxford CC Kestrels, Cholsey CC and Sunningwell CC on winning their Pools and reaching the Semi-Finals of this season’s U13 Gauntlet Goblet Competition.

The Semi-Final Line Up is as follows:

SF1 – Eynsham v Oxford Kestrels – to be played 21 July

SF2 – Cholsey v Sunningwell – Date TBC

The winners of Semi-Final 1 will then host the Final on a date to be confirmed.

Witney Mills Crowned U13 League Champions

Charlbury CC kindly hosted the U13 League Finals Day on Sunday 17 July in stunning weather.

In the first Semi-Final Witney Mills beat Kidmore End by 4 wickets.
Kidmore End batted first scoring 121-7 in their 20 overs with Aarah V 30ret and Josh F 29ret. Owen Morgan taking 4-15 and Theo Wright 2-13 for Mills.
In reply, a well paced innings from Mills saw them scoring 122 for the loss of 6 wickets after 18.2 overs with Theo Wright 31ret and Sam Jackson 33ret. Aadit taking 2-18 for Kidmore End.

In the second Semi-Final Banbury beat Abingdon Vale by 42 runs.
Banbury batted first scoring 125-6 off their 20 overs with Thomas Hodge 30ret and Will Rorich 16no.
In reply, Abingdon were bowled out in the 16th over for 83 with Henry Golding 31ret. Will Rorich taking 4 wickets for Banbury.

In the Third / Fourth Place Play Off Abingdon Vale beat Kidmore End by 47 runs.
Abingdon Vale batted first scoring 120 all out in 19.5 overs with Henry Golding 23 and B Smith 17no. For Kidmore End, Aadit taking 2-25; J Finch 2-15; Zac 2-7 and Sunny 3-14.
In reply, Kidmore End fell short of the required target being bowled out for 73 in 14 overs with Nanden 19; Sunny 12 and J Finch 11. H Fitter taking 3-7 for Abingdon.

In the Final Witney Mills beat Banbury by 9 wickets to be crowned U13 League County Champions.
Banbury batted first being bowled out for 47 in the 13th over with A Thomas 14. 2 wickets apiece for S McFadden; Matthew Tilley and Theo Wright for Mills.
In reply, Mills comfortably reached their target in the 10th over for the loss of 1 wicket with Owen Morgan 29no.

Chris Mitty from the Oxfordshire Cricket Board of Directors conducted the presentation thanking Charlbury CC for hosting the day, the scorers, coaches, parents and finally David Hall, Isaac Hall, Paul Taylor and Alex Dellar for officiating the day.

Finally, Chris handed out the medals to both teams and the U13 League Cup to Witney Mills captain.

This was the first youth trophy for Witney Mills CC who only started a junior section 6 years ago after a gap of around 20 years.

Both teams in the Final were entirely made up of state school-educated primary children; a great achievement from both clubs offering excellent playing opportunities and coaching.

Week 5 Roundup – Hartwell & Wilf Bennett T20 Competitions

This week saw the fifth round of Pool fixtures in the competitions with 3 of our Finalists now confirmed for Wormsley on Saturday 17th September.

The Hartwell Trophy results were:

Pool 1

– Cropredy conceded to Cumnor.

– Oxford beat Bicester & North Oxford by 3 wickets with George Tait 75 and the wickets shared between the Oxford bowlers. Zian Stoop 62; Oliver Ward 24; Ryan Moore 24 and Daniel Clark 3-5 for Bicester.

The final game in the Pool next week between Cumnor CC v Banbury CC will decide whether Cumnor, Oxford or Banbury qualify for Finals Day as Pool Winner.

– HORSPATH kept their cool on the UK’s hottest day on record to clinch a nail-biting six-wicket win at Challow & Childrey and a place in the Hartwell Senior Cup Final at Wormsley on September 17.

Going into their last Pool 2 game, Patrick Foster’s side knew they had to complete a perfect record of four wins out of four to be sure of top spot – and they duly delivered.

But their passage to Oxfordshire T20 Finals Day didn’t come without a scare as they were taken to the wire by the hosts before emerging victorious in another last-over thriller.

Chasing Challow’s 137-5 after the home side had chosen to bat, Horspath appeared to be coasting to victory as Jimmy Phillips (55) and Will Hawtin (25) shared an opening partnership of 69 inside 10 overs. However, after they were parted the visitors faltered and it took some powerful straight hitting from Imraan Manack (33no) to get them over the line at 140-4 with a ball to spare.

The hosts embraced T20’s spirit with boundaries and wickets greeted with musical accompaniment. Among the tunes that blared out from the pavilion was Thin Lizzy’s ‘The Boys Are Back In Town’ – and Challow old boy Phillips, playing his first competitive game back at his former club, was certainly enjoying being back in town as he set about knocking off the runs. Unleashing a series of superb cover drives from the green oasis of Challow’s square into the straw-coloured desert of an outfield, the left-handed opener added to scores of 47 and 42 in the competition with a classy half-century. Hawtin, meanwhile, provided excellent support, striking the ball cleanly, including one cracking square cut for four, before he was stumped off Alex Dawson, who hauled Challow back into the game with fine figures of 2-16 off four overs. Phillips, who hit seven fours, went to his fifty with a single down to long off only to be run out shortly afterwards, and with Horspath stumbling to 105-4 in the 17th over, the hosts suddenly sensed they had a chance.

The visitors required 24 off the last two overs, and Manack settled Horspath’s nerves with a huge six down to the road end, before Jehan Mohammed’s exquisite scoop shot for four saw 10 needed off the final over. Manack survived a low chance at long on off the first ball while running two, and then smashed the next delivery to the extra cover boundary.

The South African all-rounder was in full flow and picked up two more runs off the fourth ball, before sealing victory in style by hammering the penultimate delivery for four past the sight screen to see Horspath home to the cheers of their good band of travelling supporters.

Earlier, Horspath had done well to hold the home side to what looked a below-par score on a lightning-fast outfield.

Charlie Turner produced a fine opening spell, before returning to bowl the last over, shattering the stumps with successive deliveries to finish with 3-26.

Manack and Choudhary picked up a wicket apiece with their off-spin, while Lloyd Belcher bowled tidily to concede just 21 runs from his four overs without reward.

Opener Joe Harris hit a bold 41, sharing a second-wicket stand of 50 with Tommie Rees (22), before Olly Dunn (32no) and Jack Pearce (25) took Challow to their final total with the latter’s knock including a six, which peppered the score box. Report courtesy of Russ Smith.

This year’s U13 League comes to an exciting conclusion on Sunday with the Finals Day being held at Charlbury CC.

The Line-Up for Finals Day:

– Pitch 1 – Witney Mills v Kidmore End

– Pitch 2 – Abingdon Vale v Banbury

Timings for spectators are as follows:

– Charlbury CC Gates Open at 9.30am

– Both Semi-Finals start at 10.00am

– Interval approx. 1.00 to 2.30pm (provision for longer gap in the heat of the day, if required)

– Final and Third/Fourth Place Playoff both to start at 2.30pm

– Presentation approx. 5.30pm

Tiddington CC to host Hampstead CC in the Vitality U13 Club T20

Following their success at the U13 Ron Maudsley Final Day on Sunday 3 July; Tiddington CC are back in action this weekend.

The reward for victories against Kidmore End CC and Henley CC in the Semi-Final and Final respectively is a home Second Round Tie against the Middlesex county winners, Hampstead CC.

The match will be played at Tiddington CC on Sunday 17 July at 10am for any spectators wishing to attend.

The winners of this tie will then qualify for the Regional Finals to be played at Teddington CC (Middx) on Wednesday 27 July. Their opponents will be the winners of another Second Round Tie where Suffolk winners, Copdock & Old Ipswichians CC face Essex winners, Harold Wood CC.
