2022 Gauntlet Goblet U13 Pairs Final – Oxford Kestrels v Sunningwell

Following the very sad news of the death of Queen Elizabeth II; as a mark of respect the U13 Gauntlet Goblet Final scheduled to take place on Friday 9th September at Oxford CC was postponed.

The Final has now been rearranged for Saturday 17th September 1pm at Jordan Hill.

Good luck to both clubs.

Congratulations to Oxford Kestrels and Sunningwell CC who are to meet in this season’s Gauntlet Goblet Final on Friday 9th September at Oxford CC, Jordan Hill.

To reach the final; Sunningwell overcame Cholsey in an absolute thriller by 1 run whilst Oxford Kestrels beat Eynsham by 11 runs in another close Semi-Final.

U19 Honey B Finals Day at Horspath CC – Sunday 11th September

Following Thursday’s very sad news of the death of Queen Elizabeth II, Sunday’s U19 Finals at Horspath CC will go ahead as planned in accordance with the ECB National guidelines.

The line-up for this year’s U19 Finals Day for the Honey B Trophy at Horspath CC on Sunday 11th September are:

SF1 – Pitch 1 – Horspath CC v Minster Lovell CC

SF2 – Pitch 2 – Banbury CC v Cumnor CC

– Gates Open at 9.30am

– Both Semi-Finals start at 10.30am

– Interval approx. 1.15 to 2.00pm

– Final and Third/Fourth Place Playoff start at 2.00pm

– Presentation approx. 5.00pm

Oxfordshire Finals Day at Wormsley Cricket Ground – Saturday 17th September

With our 2022 competition offering across both Youth and Senior cricket coming towards an end; we would like to remind you of timings for the highlight of our season at Wormsley Cricket Ground on Saturday 17th September.

– Gates Open at 9am

– 10.30am Wilf Bennett Final: Shipton-Under-Wychwood CC v Brackley CC

– 1.30-2.30pm All Stars Demonstration led by our All Stars and Dynamos Cricket Development Manager, Zoe Pugh

– 2.30pm All Stars Guard of Honour for the Hartwell Cup Final

– 2.30pm Hartwell Cup Final: Horspath CC v Banbury CC

– 2-3pm Grassroots Awards Presentation in the Boundary Room

– From 6pm Youth Pathway Presentation Evening in the Boundary Room (for parents and pathway players)

Times are subject to slight change throughout the day depending on weather and length of the game.

There will be food and drink available to purchase on the day.

Dogs are welcome provided on a lead at all times.

Disabled Parking will be available.

Oxfordshire U13 Youth Cricket League – Finalists now Confirmed

Thank you to all clubs who competed in the 2 Pools of the Oxfordshire U13 Youth Cricket League this season.

Congratulations to Cumnor CC and Kidmore End CC who were both successful in their pool; each going unbeaten.

The Final will now be held at Cumnor CC on Sunday 4th September – timings still to be confirmed.

Feedback from the clubs competing in the league has been excellent, so we hope to expand this 35 over competition to further clubs next season.

Stage One and Two Umpires’ Courses 2023 These courses will run through as one course

over 3 days, 4th, 11th and 18th March 2023 At Tiddington CC from 1000 to 1600

The Stage One Umpire course is designed to give you an overview of the basic Laws of the game and how to apply them and introduce the principles of field craft and match management. Stage Two builds on this covering further Laws and exploring the concept of working as part of a team with a colleague and the scorers. It is intended to introduce you to the skills and knowledge required to be a member of a league panel.

Challow & Childrey CC are crowned our inaugural U15 Hundred County Champions

Didcot CC kindly hosted the inaugural county U15 Hundred Finals Day on Sunday 21 August.

Sunday saw return visits to Finals Day this season for both Challow & Childrey CC and Tiddington CC; and first visits for a number of years for Minster Lovell CC and Middleton Cheney CC.

In the first Semi-Final Challow & Childrey CC beat Minster Lovell CC by 8 wickets.

Challow & Childrey won the toss and elected to field.

Minster scored 95-6 off their 100 balls with Budmin Mathota 44 and Seamus Rowles 27. Brett Newton 2-11 and Henry Maunder 2-16 the pick of the bowlers for Challow.

In reply, Challow reached their target off 60 balls for the loss of 2 wickets with Joe Westmoreland 28; Daniel Westmoreland 22no and Murray Gray 21.

In the second Semi-Final Middleton Cheney CC beat Tiddington CC by 8 wickets.

Batting first Tiddington CC scored 91-7 off their 100 balls with Louis Stanfield 25. Aidan McGinley 2-17; Freddie Faulkner 2-9 and an economical spell of 0-10 from 20 balls from Dexter Ainley being the pick of the bowlers.

In reply, Middleton reached their target for the loss of 2 wickets off 58 balls with Aston Hazell 34. A wicket apiece for Louis Stanfield and Monty Boyd.

In the Third / Fourth Place Play Off Minster Lovell CC beat Tiddington CC by 2 runs.

Batting first Minster Lovell scored 138-3 off their 100 balls with Budmin Mathota 50ret and Lewis Gardner 23no.

In reply, after an excellent start Tiddington were held to 136-6 off their 100 balls with George Coombs 53ret and Finn Williams 27.

In the Final, Challow & Childrey CC beat Middleton Cheney CC by 50 runs to be crowned U15 Hundred County Champions.

Middleton Cheney won the toss and elected to field.

Challow scored 131-5 off their 100 balls with Dan Westmoreland 50ret; Murray Gray 36 and Louis King 22no. Wickets were shared between the Middleton bowling attack.

In reply, the regular loss of wickets meant Middleton were always behind the asking rate finishing on 81-7 off their 100 balls with Dexter Ainley 24. Tight bowling by the Challow attack saw Ethan Malik take 3-11; Ethan Konschel 2-24; Henry Maunder 1-11 and Dan Westmoreland 1-15.

Paul Short from Oxfordshire Cricket thanked the coaches, parents and players for their enthusiasm in running the inaugural Hundred Competition in a compressed window, Didcot CC for hosting, the scorers and finally David Hall, Isaac Hall, Mark Jenkins and Colin Muttit for officiating the day.

Finally, Paul handed out the medals to both teams and the U15 Hundred County Cup to Challow & Childrey captain Dan Westmoreland.

Women & Girls Showcase Day Roundup

Our first ever Women & Girls showcase day took place on 16th August at Wormsley and was a roaring success, despite the best efforts of the weather to derail us. The day was designed to give girls the opportunity to play at the world-famous Wormsley Cricket Ground, whilst also getting the chance for them to watch our women’s county team up close.

Game 1 began at 10am with Oxford Under 13’s Girls playing Cumnor Under 13’s Girls. Both teams qualified for the finals day on account of finishing in the top two in their group.

Oxford came out victorious in a game that showcased some great cricket. Oxford recorded a score of 140/3 and Cumnor made 91/4 off their 16 overs in reply. Full scorecard here – https://oxonwomenscomps.play-cricket.com/website/results/5488474

The second match was the Under 15 girls hardball final between Oxford and Moreton. The game was reduced to 16 overs per side after rain delays and Moreton piled on 172/5 off their 16 overs. Oxford innings could only last 12 overs before another rain break, Oxford were 70/6 which was behind the revised target of 130 that they needed at that point in the game, and enough overs were bowled to constitute a game so Moreton ran out comfortable winners by 59 runs. A healthy crowd was starting to build throughout the day and it was great to see the County women warming up alongside the pitch during the Under 15’s final.

The final game was our showpiece game between our County Women and the British Army. Oxfordshire won the toss and made a great start, racing to 130-1 off 16 overs before the rain came for a final time to put an end to proceedings.
