Governance Changes at Oxfordshire Cricket
As discussed at previous Members Meetings, the ECB has increasingly raised the topic of term limits of Directors such that the Oxfordshire Cricket Board has been aware that Chris Clements, John Patey and Margaret Stevens will all have to complete their terms of office in the near term.
Chris has now stepped down from the Board and the Directors have decided that John Patey will take the Chair on an interim basis. The Board and all of the cricket community in Oxfordshire are hugely indebted to Chris for the untiring efforts that he has put in over the previous 17 years to improve cricket for all in Oxfordshire. We all wish him the best and hope to continue seeing him around the boundary of Oxfordshire cricket grounds.
The Board have been running a recruitment campaign to attract new Directors and we are delighted to announce that Peter Tervet will join the Board without portfolio and will immediately start to have an influence on cricket in Oxfordshire. Further information about Peter is attached below.
Peter will be proposed as a Director to the membership at an Extraordinary General Meeting on Tuesday 4th July and if approved as a Director by the membership, he will then be appointed Chair by the Directors. Those in the cricketing community will have come across Peter, who is Chair at Thame Town CC. He will continue in this role until the end of the season when he will stand down and not seek re-election at their AGM.
Commenting on the recruitment process, Chris Parkinson said:
The whole recruitment panel has been incredibly pleased and excited about the quality of applicants received for the new Board positions. Those who were successful will have the opportunity to contribute their extensive skill sets to a very exciting future for Oxfordshire Cricket
Commenting on joining the Oxfordshire board, Peter Tervet said:
It is an honour to be nominated as a Director of Oxfordshire Cricket. Since relocating to this part of the world over a decade ago, cricket has been an integral part of my family life. My involvement has spanned various roles, including player, volunteer, coach, and Chairman at Thame. The journey has been immensely rewarding.
As a parent of two boys and a girl, I have personally witnessed the immense value that junior club cricket and the county pathway bring to young people. This first-hand experience motivates me to ensure that we do our utmost to give everybody the best opportunities and support to develop through cricket.
In my professional life, I serve as the COO of an environmental not-for-profit organization and MD of its trading subsidiary. While my background predominantly lies in accounting, my true professional calling lies in fostering meaningful connections with people and driving strategic growth. Through my extensive involvement in the not-for-profit sector and my work with small and medium-sized high-growth businesses, I have acquired a deep understanding of how effective governance can support growth and manage risks. I am committed to leveraging this knowledge to benefit the Oxfordshire cricket community.
The Oxfordshire Board consists of exceptional individuals who are highly motivated and accomplished in their respective fields. I commend the Board and Executive for their outstanding efforts, and I look forward to collaborating with them and continuing to make a lasting positive impact on Oxfordshire Cricket.

Wolvercote Are Crowned U13 Inaugural Hundred Champions
With bad September weather, fading light and the passing of Her Majesty the Queen, last year’s inaugural U13 Hundred semi-finals and final were postponed into this season with all players from last season being eligible to take part.
On a sunny warm early June day, the finals day was held at Abingdon School, Coxes Field on Sunday 4th of June.
The first semi-final saw Wolvercote beat Sandford St Martin by 83 runs. Batting first, Wolvercote set 159/2 from their 100 balls with Cowley and Du Plessis scoring 72 and 66 respectively to post a competitive total. In response, Sandford St Martin lost early wickets. Captain Gardner posted 33 not out as his side finished 76/8 from their allocated balls. The pick of the bowlers for Wolvercote was Gibbons who finished with figures of 5-3 from 20 balls.
Semi-final two took place shortly after, with Goring and Cumnor looking to progress to the final. Goring batted first, and posted a very competitive 137/3 from their 100 balls – Logan’s 36* and Richards’ 44 being the main contributors. Cumnor got off to a nervy start, falling to 29-3. Nicholson strode to the crease and scored 84 from 43 – with a six on the 97th ball of the game winning it for his side. His partner Spokes must also be commended for his contribution of a run a ball 26 which saw Cumnor progress to the final.
After a short break, the final got underway, with Wolvercote again batting first. Robinson’s 63 from 35 was the pick of the innings, with cameos from his teammates helping their side to 135/7. Needing another masterclass from one of their key players, Cumnor sent Davies and Nicholson out to open in the hope that they could see their side over the line. Unfortunately, that was not to be the case, with them falling for 20 and 33 respectively. Spokes and Cobner-Vale attempted to rally and did so successfully for a while until both fell foul of the chase and lost their wickets. Cumnor finished on 117/8, a mere 18 runs short with Wolvercote being crowned champions.
The presentation of the trophy and medals was conducted by Joe Clapton (Finals Day Manager for the day) and Chris Mitty (Director at Oxfordshire Cricket) who thanked Abingdon School for hosting, the umpires, coaches, scorers and all the teams for a great day of cricket. Thank you to all clubs who competed in this first year of the Competition, and we look forward to seeing more great cricket over the summer.
