The former OCB Director Michael Geeson-Brown recently passed away aged 69.
Michael joined the OCB’s Executive committee in 2008 and became County Welfare Officer
a year later. A solicitor at Darbys in Oxford, he helped to draft the Articles of Association
required when the OCB was incorporated in 2011. He was made a director, responsible for
Welfare and Legal Affairs, a position he held until 2014 when he resigned.
The former Secretary of the OCB Peter O’Neill has kindly sent the following: “I first
encountered Michael in the magistrates courts in Oxfordshire when I was a Magistrate and he
was a solicitor doing his best to defend his clients from whatever charge they faced. I was
very fortunate to also meet him through our love of cricket and for a number of years he was
the Child Welfare Officer for Oxfordshire Cricket Board. When the ECB encouraged Boards
to become Incorporated bodies, Michael’s legal knowledge and connections were invaluable
in producing our Articles of Association for the OCB. He was also one of the four founding
Directors along with Chris Clements, Roger Berryman and myself. Michael remained a
Director for several years before standing down due to pressure of work but was always
available to advise if required on legal matters for which OCB were very grateful. Thank you
Michael for all you did – you will be greatly missed.”
Michael’s son Tom played a few matches for Oxfordshire.
