Oxfordshire Cricket Partner with #HerGameToo
We are delighted to announce that Oxfordshire Cricket has partnered with #HerGameToo to ensure clubs provide a safe space for women and girls and have robust protocols in place for reporting sexism and misogyny within the sport.
Oxfordshire Cricket is determined to create and encourage more welcoming and safe spaces for women and girls at cricket clubs, and as a result, every club entering our girl’s competitions this season will be provided with promotional material which includes QR codes which women and girls are able to scan to report issues at their club.
At #HerGameToo, it is their aim to work closely with our grassroots partners to ensure that clubs offer a safe and welcoming environment for all, as well as provide the means and opportunities to help women and girls get involved with cricket.
Ed Wilson, Cricket Development Manager at Oxfordshire Cricket said:
‘Women and Girls Cricket in Oxfordshire has seen significant growth in the last few years and making sure clubs create welcoming environments and provide safe spaces for women and girls to play, officiate, volunteer and socialise is important to ensure it keeps growing. This partnership is another key milestone for Oxfordshire Cricket. #HerGameToo already does great work up and down the county and I’m looking forward to working with them as they offer support to Oxfordshire clubs.’
Paige Caunce, #HerGameToo Cricket Lead Team member & Ambassador for Lancashire Cricket said:
“The Oxfordshire Cricket Board continues to be committed to the investment in women’s cricket and growing the game. They are already doing fantastic work to enable women and girls to participate in cricket and laying the foundations for the future. #HerGameToo Cricket are delighted to be partnering with OCB and working together to ensure that cricket in Oxfordshire is a welcoming environment for all and to encourage women and girls to get involved in our beautiful sport.”
Lucy Ford, #HerGameToo co-founder and #HerGameToo Cricket Lead Team member said:
“We are delighted to be partnered up with Oxfordshire Cricket Board, we are very keen to spread the #HerGameToo message in grassroots cricket and we hope with this partnership, we will be able to do this!” –

Stephen Fry launches MCC campaign to reward Community Cricket Heroes
- MCC and The Cricketer partner to deliver Community Cricket Heroes campaign which seeks to reward 11 unsung grassroots ‘heroes’ of the game
- Nominations to find heroes are now open
- Winners invited to join MCC President Stephen Fry as guests at Lord’s during the England v Ireland Men’s Test match in June
- Panel of MCC Members and former England internationals to choose winners
MCC President Stephen Fry, today officially launched a new campaign to celebrate grassroots cricket and find the country’s 11 greatest unsung cricketing heroes.
MCC’s Community Cricket Heroes campaign will invite the public and the cricket community from across the UK to put forward their nominations for individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to the grassroots game and their community.
A team of 11 MCC Community Cricket Heroes will be chosen from the nominations by a special panel including Fry and former England internationals and MCC Members, Mike Gatting and Claire Taylor. The winners will be invited to Lord’s as special guests of the MCC President to watch a day’s play of the England v Ireland Men’s Test match from the prestigious President’s Suite.
The panel will be looking for entrants who work hard to make a demonstrable positive difference to their community through grassroots cricket, from volunteers who go above and beyond for their cricket club and community, to coaches who are inspiring people on and off the pitch or players who have overcome adversity to play or help the game.
The campaign, launched by Fry in a special video message, is being run by MCC in partnership with The Cricketer magazine. Nominations will close next month with the selected MCC Community Cricket Heroes announced shortly after.
MCC President Stephen Fry commented: “MCC’s Community Cricket Heroes is a celebration of all that is wonderful about our game and the thousands of people across the country that make cricket what it is. These are the unsung heroes who epitomise the great things about cricket and the values of MCC. It’s a great opportunity to recognise them and to celebrate their invaluable contribution to the game.”
Chair of MCC Cricket Committee and former England international Claire Taylor, added: “Cricket is played and supported by so many people from different backgrounds in communities across the country. As I know from personal experience, it takes more than the team on the pitch to make our great game happen. It has such a positive impact on people’s lives in a whole range of ways so it’s important that we shine a light on that part of our game and those individuals who make such a difference.”
To nominate your MCC Community Cricket Hero visit www.lords.org/heroes. The closing date for nominations is midnight on Thursday 27 April.
