Game 1:
Kidmore End CC Under-17s produced a dominant all-round performance to defeat Langford CC Under-17s by 33 runs (DLS method). Having won the toss and elected to bat first, Kidmore set an imposing total of 180 for 2 in their 20 overs before restricting Langford to 80 for 7 in a rain-shortened chase.
Kidmore’s innings was anchored by a pair of outstanding half-centuries from Dhruv Peskar and captain Aryan Vynatheya. Openers Peskar and Singh gave the innings a lively start, adding 41 for the first wicket before Singh was bowled by George France for a brisk 27 off 19 balls. Peskar continued confidently, striking 4 fours and 3 sixes in a classy knock of 65 off 46 balls. He shared a commanding 109-run stand with Vynatheya, who took over the mantle with a superb captain’s innings of 66 not out from 47 deliveries, featuring 7 boundaries and 3 sixes. Sanay Sadhwani chipped in with an unbeaten 11 as Kidmore closed on a formidable 180 for 2. Langford’s bowlers struggled for breakthroughs, with George France the lone wicket-taker, finishing with 2 for 25 from his 3 overs.
Rain during the interval meant Langford’s target was revised to 113 from 12 overs. They lost early wickets in the chase and struggled to keep up with the required rate. Although Freddie Webb played a valiant innings of 43 not out from 32 balls—including 7 boundaries—he received little support from the other end. Stan Jackman briefly threatened with a quick 16, but Langford’s hopes faded as they slipped from 65 for 2 to 80 for 7 by the end of their allotted overs.
Kidmore’s bowling was tight and disciplined, led by D Singh who starred with figures of 3 for 8 from just 2 overs, including three key middle-order scalps. Ibby Zahid bowled with good control and picked up 1 for 27 in his full quota of 4 overs. The fielding unit was equally impressive, affecting three run-outs—two of them involving sharp work from Shaurya Sharma.
From that impressive victory, Kidmore End advanced to the final where they’d play Wolvercote who had automatically secured a final spot after Aston Rowant conceded the Semi Final.
Game 2:
Kidmore End CC Under-17s delivered a strong team performance to overcome Wolvercote CC Under-17s by 24 runs in the Oxfordshire U17 League Final. Batting first after being sent in by Wolvercote, Kidmore posted an impressive 169 for 7 in their 20 overs, before restricting their opponents to 145 for 9 in a competitive contest.
Kidmore’s innings was built around a superb half-century from captain Aryan Vynatheya and a blistering knock by Joshua Finch. Despite early wickets—openers D Singh and Dhruv Peskar falling within the powerplay—Vynatheya provided momentum with a fluent 54 off 32 balls, including 6 boundaries and a six. He combined with Finch in a pivotal fourth-wicket stand, before being bowled with the score on 114. Finch then accelerated the scoring, smashing 61 from just 39 balls, peppered with 4 fours and 5 towering sixes. Lower-order contributions from Ibby Zahid (13 not out) helped Kidmore reach a competitive total. Wolvercote’s attack was led by Billy Vallings (3 for 27) and Jeremy Newman (3 for 26), both of whom struck at key moments to keep the innings in check.
In response, Wolvercote’s chase was held together by opener Oliver Beard, who played a valiant knock of 67 from 49 deliveries, hitting 5 fours and 3 sixes. But regular wickets at the other end stymied their progress. Captain Tom Bratby offered some resistance with a composed 20, and Paddy Stocks chipped in with an unbeaten 16 late on, but the required rate proved too steep. Aryan Vynatheya capped an outstanding all-round display by taking 4 for 29 in his four overs, while D Singh continued his fine form with the ball, claiming 3 for 24, including three key wickets in the middle order. Ibby Zahid also bowled economically and picked up a wicket as Wolvercote finished 24 runs short of the target at 145 for 9.
Kidmore’s win was underpinned by disciplined bowling, sharp fielding—including a run-out affected by Dhruv Peskar—and an explosive middle-order batting display that ultimately proved the difference.
